For several years Porter Progress UK have been collecting outdoor clothing and equipment from our supporters from all around the UK and Europe to redistribute to the Mountain Porters, primarily through the clothing banks we support in Nepal. The collections have been a huge success, with literally thousands of pieces donated to us. In the light of the recent earthquakes and with logistical problems of storage transport, we have taken the decision to suspend collections for the time-being to concentrate on the relief and rebuilding efforts.
We are increasingly able to source good quality, locally manufactured equipment in-country and see this as a vital way of supporting the local economy whilst also ensuring our clothing bank users are properly equipped. With funds raised in the UK, we have managed to fully stock the clothing bank with over 200 sleeping bags purchased in Kathmandu, this has provided many hundreds of warmer porter nights on the mountain, as well as offering a much needed, emergency resource to the many injured climbers evacuated from Everest in the recent tragedy.
In order to maintain our supplies and keep them in good order, we need ready funds and so if you would like to still donate your old gear to PPUK we are asking if you can sell it on Ebay on our behalf, just visit our page here
Select PPUK form the list of charities after you have set up the sale, you can choose to donate anything from 10-100% of the sale price. (the more, the better!) If you are a regular eBayer, you can also offer to donate a percentage of any other sales to us and also when buying. Simply select PPUK from the drop down menu on checkout.
Large corporate donors of kit should still contact us directly as we may be able to find a use for volumes of redundant outdoor clothing and equipment in other mountainous regions, such has Pakistan and Tanzania with affiliated supporters and charities.
We are also still looking for partners to distribute our remaining stock to the places that need it, so if you can help, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you once again for all the support – .
